Abstract
This analytical theoretical study examines the reality and expectations of implementing distance learning during the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and the challenges it posed to the educational sector globally and locally. The paper aims to clarify the concept, objectives, characteristics, pros, and cons of distance education, as well as the obstacles hindering its application, particularly infrastructure and technological disparities. Furthermore, it highlights the efforts and initiatives undertaken by international organizations such as UNESCO and UNICEF, and reviews various Arab and international experiences in managing the educational process during the crisis. The study concludes with a set of recommendations and proposals to enhance distance learning in accordance with total quality standards.
