Groundwater Rise Phenomenon in Zliten City (Study - Testing - Evaluation)

Abstract
This study evaluated the water resulting from the rising groundwater levels in the affected areas of Zliten city by conducting chemical tests on samples collected from four different locations. The tests included pH (7 - 7.4), Total Dissolved Solids (3230 - 10390 mg/L), Electrical Conductivity (6100 - 18210 µS/cm), Sulfates (930 - 1800 mg/L), Chlorides (900 - 3980 mg/L), Bicarbonates (320 - 670 mg/L), and Nitrates (1.2 - 5.3 mg/L). Comparing these results with WHO and FAO standards revealed that all parameters exceeded permissible limits, except for pH and Nitrates. Consequently, the researchers concluded that the shallow groundwater in the affected areas is unsuitable for drinking and irrigation, necessitating proper engineering management to mitigate the problem.
